A great listen for parents and caregivers
I love the CLOC podcast as it addresses things I relate to as a parent, caregiver and professional seeking to improve the hospitalExperience. Katie is so knowledgeable and her guests are so interesting to listen to!
Such important information!
This information is so important!!! As a clinician, I am so thankful that Katie is sharing this expertise with the world. As a parent, I want to know every last detail!
Love love love
We need more podcasts like this!
Sharing invaluable insight
One of my most favorite things about this podcast is that so many of the episodes focus on insight from the parent’s perspective! I particularly value those that focus on parents of children with disabilities, both congenital and acquired. I use them regularly as assigned listening for a graduate level child life course that I teach. There is no better way to teach about supporting children with disabilities and their families and hearing from the families what their experience is! Katie does such an excellent job of allowing space, and providing really thoughtful prompts for parents to dig into their stories.
Compassionate stories
This podcast is just what families need! Learning about emotionally safe ways to handle the stressors that come with having a child hospitalized is so necessary. This podcast empowers people to advocate for their families in a way they may never have learned otherwise.
Love learning from this!
As a student, this is a really helpful tool to refresh and sharpen my skills… Going into my professional career I will carry the stories and lessons learned through the podcast, and Katie has great first-hand perspective of Child Life and the Child life profession.
Great perspectives!
I’ve listened in on this podcast a few times as a child life student looking to learn more about how child life plays a role in different medical journeys. Listening to the perspectives of parents and healthcare professionals is helpful and informative. It is definitely a great tool to have access to!
Inspiring!
Katie is so eloquent and thoughtful when communicating with, about, and to patient and family’s experiences in this podcast. I appreciate her perspective and determination to better patient and family experiences through the lens of a child life specialist, promoting emotional safety!
Wonderful resource!
Child life on call is the child life resource everyone wishes they had! As a student, the advice has been so helpful in filling out and submitting my internship applications. I’m excited to continue learning :)
Amazing!
Absolutely love listening to these! As a fellow CCLS it gives me so much joy to hear about others journeys.
Truly active listening
So great to hear you ask Dianne about her son’s perspective and experience with neurofeedback. It was also heart warming to hear you express how you noticed Dianne’s confidence and how mission driven she is.

Great Insight!
I am a parent of a medically complex child. We’ve experienced very long hospitalizations. We’ve consistently had private duty nurses, therapies, specialty doctor appointments for the last 6.5 years. This podcast is a wonderful place to learn more about advocating, interventions, and support for those living the life!
Love this podcast!
I am an IVF and NICU mama. I found Child Life on Call when I searched gtubes / feeding aversions as my daughter has a gtube due to a feeding aversion. I haven’t looked back since - I love to hear these stories and learn. Katie’s voice is so relaxing.
Wow!
Awesome podcast for Child Life students. I’m learning so much! Thank you!
My personal experience
My 4 yr old son. My only son was recently diagnosed with Wilms Tumor. I was devastated. I don’t know where our family would be our CLS. From the chemo duck she used to explain to our son what cancer is and what he could expect to just being there physically emotionally and mentally. I’d love to share my experience more in-depth. Thanks for starting this podcast.

Thank you!
Thank you for producing this podcast! As a medical mama it brings so much warmth to my heart to hear from others going through similar experiences. It’s given me new perspective many times. Thank you!
Amazing!
Absolutely loved the latest podcast on how to explain death and dying to children. I’m a new CCLS working in the PICU and felt very validated in the way I have been discussing death and dying with families. I also feel more comfortable advocating for developmentally appropriate ways to explain death to children and voicing that professional perspective.
Amazing podcast
I love this podcast so much. Katie is an amazing interviewer, and makes listening intriguing and light hearted. My favorite episode so far was Shani’s story. Hearing about her journey as a mom trying to find help for her two sons, and ultimately getting an ADHD diagnosis, was incredibly helpful. She provided lots of insight as to navigating the school system, and other tips for parents who might be dealing with a similar struggle. Thanks so much for doing what you do, Katie!

I’ve been a CCLS for over 20 years and finding this podcasts has been a tremendous new resource for me. The parent stories and their perspective is invaluable! I’ve started taking notes during the podcasts to make sure I remember all of the little tips, phrases, websites and ideas. Thank you for doing this podcast!
Insightful, emotional & soul calming
This podcast exudes Information that is comfortably swaddled in genuine love for kids and families in need. Can’t recommend this enough if you’re a care giver, a parent or a human being that wants to learn more about what children and their families embark on in health challenges.

In love with this podcast!
Whether you are a child life student, parent, or someone who just stumbled upon this podcast, you will fall in love. As a child life student, listening to this podcast has expanded my knowledge and understanding of the needs of families and pediatric patients, medical conditions, and advocacy. It has complimented my coursework so well, while also preparing me to work with children and families with specific medical conditions by bringing in perspectives I have yet to learn. I recommend you share this podcast even with those who are not in the medical field or child life or who have not experienced hospitalization. Sharing this podcast with friends has led to so many important and deep conversations about advocacy, “what would you do in this situation” questions, and is just a great conversation starter to have with other people in your life and can really help spread that community of empathy and understanding. Thank you to Katie and all the families for sharing your stories!
